What does a typical day look like for our Electrical Engineers?

Senior/ Intermediate Airfield Electrical Engineer at Avia NG are the central hub and manage projects from start to finish. Your day may start in one of our Canadian offices, however our Senior/ Intermediate Airfield Electrical Engineer may travel to various sites within Canada and the Caribbean to conduct business as well.

Specific tasks include:

• Preparing and overseeing the design of airfield electrical infrastructure as well as various groundside facilities.
• Preparation of proposals.
• Business development related to airfield electrical infrastructure including attendance at conferences and trade-shows.
• Site reviews and inspections related to airfield electrical infrastructure.
• Plan, design and construction of airfield electrical and municipal infrastructure projects through the application of theory and principles of electrical engineering.
• Develop and prepare figures, design drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, technical reports, etc.
• Use and remain proficient at using AutoCAD and other electrical design software to carry out your work.
• Undertake research activities to identify and develop potential solutions to design challenges associated with airfield facility design/construction.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current Transport Canada, ICAO, FAA and related standards and recommended practices.
• Project management and contract administration duties for infrastructure projects including but not limited to the preparation of budget/schedule updates, progress payment certificates, shop drawing review, site instructions, change orders, commissioning inspections, etc.
• Inspect project sites specific to electrical installations and evaluate contractor work to determine compliance with Contract Documents.
• Plan and conduct site visits.
• Mentor junior staff.

What do we need from you?

Our best fit for this role would be a self-starter who has experience in airfield electrical engineering and is known for seeing ahead of the curve, getting in front of problems before they arise.

Additional skills and experience we are seeking:

• Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer, Engineer-in-Training with a minimum five (5) years related work experience.
• Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering, design or project engineering/management for the municipal/land development/transportation industry, with airport experience required.
• Strong communication and report writing skills and ability to prioritize/manage multiple project timelines.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff as required.
• Proficient with AutoCAD as well as the MS Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Interest in airports/aviation is considered an asset.
