Job summary

Suncor Energy is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to support instrumentation assets at Mackay River site, Fort McMurray, Alberta. You will guide instrumentation strategy, provide technical leadership, and help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Minimum requirements include a Bachelors in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering, P.Eng. eligibility, 7–10 years in relevant settings, and proficiency in PHAs, HAZOPs, RCFA/RCM with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering or related discipline.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for APEGA
• 7–10 years of instrumentation engineering experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, mining or heavy industrial settings.
• Skilled in RCFA, RCM methodologies and MOC processes.
• Proficient in Risk Assessment, PHAs, HAZOPs and LOPAs.
• Valid driver’s licence or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance to the Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance team, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Monitor instrumentation system performance, identify reliability concerns, and recommend optimization initiatives.
• Manage spare parts strategies and maintain Master Data (SBOMs, BOMs, material masters, OCCs).
• Develop and prepare construction work packages for equipment replacements, modifications and system upgrades.
• Lead investigations related to E&I events and support incident management and root-cause analysis.
• Support Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and act as the instrumentation focal point.
