Responsibilities

  • Lead design, integration, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation, control, automation and electrical systems.
  • Develop PLC, HMI, SCADA, LabVIEW, motion control, and DAQ applications.
  • Prepare and review requirements, design docs, test procedures and manuals.
  • Support qualification, FAT/DVT, commissioning, and field deployment at nuclear sites.

Retube Tooling & Field Services

Come join us in reshaping the future with AtkinsRéalis. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Instrumentation, Control & Electrical Engineer to join our Retube Tooling & Field Services team. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, testing, commissioning, and field deployment of specialized nuclear tooling systems used in reactor refurbishment and maintenance projects.

How Will You Contribute?
  • Lead the design, integration, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation, control, automation, and electrical systems for specialized nuclear tooling and equipment.
  • Develop and support PLC, HMI, SCADA, LabVIEW, motion control, and data acquisition (DAQ) applications.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables, including requirements, design documentation, test procedures, commissioning plans, operating manuals, and technical reports.
  • Support equipment qualification, validation, FAT, DVT, Code Conversion Testing (CCT), Industrial network applications, commissioning, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, instrumentation, controls, and software issues in laboratory and field environments.
  • Provide technical support during tooling deployment, refurbishment outages, commissioning, and maintenance activities at nuclear generating stations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, manufacturing groups, vendors, and project personnel to deliver safe and reliable solutions.
  • Support configuration management, engineering change control, cybersecurity, and document management processes.
  • Perform root cause investigations, capture lessons learned, and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
  • Ensure all work is executed in accordance with company safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation, Software, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, controls, automation, or electrical engineering.
  • Experience supporting industrial, nuclear, manufacturing, tooling, or field service applications.
  • Experience with commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and field support activities.
  • Strong experience with Siemens PLCs, including TIA Portal, Step 7, S7-SCL, Safety PLCs, industrial Networks, TCP/IP, RTU, PROFIBUS, and PROFINET.
  • Experience developing SCADA and HMI solutions using WinCC or similar industrial platforms.
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW development and National Instruments hardware.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation, sensors, and measurement technologies.
  • Knowledge of motion control systems, including servo drives, VFDs, motors, and positioning systems.
  • Experience with electrical system design, industrial networks, and control panel development.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, testing, verification, and validation processes.
  • Experience with engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical leadership and engineering judgment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational and project execution skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Additional Assets
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.
  • Nuclear industry experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with CANDU refurbishment projects, retube tooling, remote handling systems, or inspection equipment.
  • Experience supporting FAT, SAT, DVT, commissioning, and field outage execution.
  • Experience with machine vision, robotics, or automated equipment.
  • Security clearance eligibility and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.
