Job summary

Paycom in Toronto, ON is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to own and maintain critical IT infrastructure. You will manage servers, databases, APIs, networks, and security in a hybrid environment and lead automation initiatives.

This role emphasizes virtualization, AD/Azure AD, IaC with Ansible or Terraform, and on-call incident response. You will collaborate in SCRUM teams and mentor junior engineers while delivering reliable, scalable systems.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure management.
  • Strong knowledge of servers, databases, APIs, networking, firewalls, load balancers, and SAN.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server administration, including patching and security.
  • Hands-on virtualization with Hyper‑V and/or VMware.
  • Experience with AD/Azure AD and on‑prem and cloud identity.
  • Experience with Ansible or Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • PowerShell or scripting skills; able to read, write, and execute scripts.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, backup technologies, and incident response.
  • Experience with GitHub or Azure DevOps for code repositories.
  • Excellent communicator and Agile/SCRUM team player.
  • Willingness for on-call support.

  • Oversee backup processes at various levels—VM snapshots, OS‑level, and SAN‑level.
  • Monitor system health and performance using appropriate logging and monitoring tools; respond to incidents and perform triage effectively.
  • Use code management repositories (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps) for infrastructure configuration and deployment.
  • Contribute to SCRUM or Agile processes by delivering infrastructure‑related tasks and improvements.
  • Lead projects from design to completion with minimal supervision and guide junior engineers through mentorship and knowledge‑sharing.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and provide timely resolution to critical infrastructure issues.

Salary Range: $163,000.00 - $200,000.00 Salary/year

  • Effective communicator and team collaborator within Agile/SCRUM environments.
  • Availability for on-call support as required.

Pay range: $163,000 – $200,000. Actual base pay will depend on varying circumstances, including the position, location, individual qualifications, market finances, and other operations business needs.

Depending on the position, compensation may also include commission, bonuses, etc. Potential for bonuses is based on company performance and potential for merit increases is based on performance.
