Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead I&C Engineer in Sudbury, Ontario to act as the senior SME for instrumentation and controls on mining and heavy industrial projects. You will shape design philosophies, drive system architecture, and mentor multi-discipline teams.

The role focuses on delivering safe, reliable, and efficient control solutions across concept through commissioning, with a strong emphasis on innovation and client collaboration.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience in heavy industrial facilities.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Canada.
• Extensive experience leading instrumentation and controls engineering within mining or heavy industrial sectors.
• Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA and process automation platforms.
• Ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists.
• Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support in industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and act as the senior technical subject matter expert on instrumentation and control systems for mining and heavy industrial facilities.
• Oversee control philosophy, system architecture, and functional specifications for complex process systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams to ensure fully integrated project solutions.
• Drive innovation by applying advanced automation, digitalization, and control technologies.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality reviews for project teams.
• Support project execution through all phases—from concept to commissioning and operational optimization.
• Engage with clients to understand operational needs and deliver tailored, high-value engineering solutions.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards across all deliverables.
