Job Summary

The Senior Human Resources Generalist (Sr HRG) jobholder drives change and business results using strong influential skills, the ability to build relationships and deep functional HR expertise. The jobholder acts as a strategic business partner to the local General Manager, leading the development and implementation of programs related to employee relations, recruiting, talent development, succession planning, and regulatory compliance. The jobholder implements human resource policies to meet organizational needs and to comply with all provincial and federal laws, compliance agencies, and Windsor Salt policies.

This position will be based out of the company's location in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of HR initiatives related to people development, talent management, staffing, retention, succession planning, diversity, organizational development, and performance management for all employees
  • Ensure the HR function’s priorities and efforts are customer-centric and aligned to the execution of the operation’s strategy
  • Develop and maintain a robust and sustainable talent pipeline for production, trades, technical, and supervisory positions
  • Develop and implement cultural change initiatives to create a collaborative work environment consistent with Windsor Salt values
  • Provide subject matter expertise and counsel department leaders on change management (i.e., identify stakeholders, gaps, potential barriers, communication plans, and measurement strategies)
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and consultation to management regarding communication and leadership style and its impact on departmental change efforts
  • Provide expertise, counsel, and coaching support to department leaders on HR annual processes and systems with the goal of building management competencies within the local leadership team
  • Functions as a leader with employee relations and completing investigations
  • Leads by example and ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, Health, and other federal, provincial, local, and Company policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Remain current on all Federal, provincial, and local employment/labor laws and regulations. Bring relevant updates to both Site and HR Leadership as appropriate. Facility any updates to rules, guidelines, and policies in response to the same.
  • Develop and/or deliver trainings to all groups of employees on appropriate topics (employee orientation, benefits enrollment, harassment prevention, etc.)
  • Act as a liaison with the local community and organizations to improve communications and enhance the Company’s image as a good corporate citizen
  • Act as the lead on plant-related Workers Compensation claims, including initial reporting, managing incoming medical documentation, evaluating work restrictions, leave and case follow up with the designated representative of the Workers Compensation Company. This includes working closely with the EH&S Manager and affected Department Manager
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned by the supervisor or defined by Company objectives

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field
  • 4+ years of Human Resources experience, previous experience with unionized workforce preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Broad knowledge of HR practices including talent acquisition, compensation, performance management, succession planning, leadership development, employee relations, change management, and organizational development
  • Ability to motivate staff and effectively accomplish tasks through others, ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn various in-house software systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; effective conflict resolution and/or mediation skills
  • Industrial and mining environment requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Flexible working hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
