Job summary

Peace Hills General Insurance Company in Edmonton seeks a permanent Senior Human Resources Advisor to provide full lifecycle HR support to management and staff, including employee relations, development, recruitment, compensation, and health and well-being.

Reporting to the VP of HR and Administration, you will design and monitor HR programs, guide leaders, manage disability and leaves, and contribute to talent planning and succession.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Human Resources or equivalent.
  • CPHR designation or working towards it.
  • Minimum 8 years of HR experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices and policies.
  • Proficient computer skills and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Support leaders with employment matters and guidance.
  • Deliver full lifecycle HR services including performance management, disability management, compensation, and workforce planning.
  • Coach leaders on employee relations, development, attendance, and termination procedures.
  • Partner with leaders to build engaged high-performing teams.
  • Lead or support HR program design, development, and monitoring.
  • Manage disability and leave processes and re-entry.
  • Assist with compensation reviews, benefits, salary surveys, and succession planning.
  • Develop and evaluate HR policies, SOPs and HR tech usage.
  • Deliver HR reporting and metrics; stay updated on legislation.

Job description

We currently have an opening for a permanent Senior Human Resources Advisor based out of our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Vice-President, Human Resources and Administration and as a key member of the Human Resources Advisory team, the Senior Human Resources Advisor position provides full employee lifecycle support to management and employees including employee relations, employee development, recruitment and selection, organizational effectiveness, coaching, performance management and employee health and well-being. This includes leading or supporting the design, delivery and monitoring of people management programs with a focus on continually improving the services delivered by the Human Resources team.

What You'll Do:
  • Support leaders by providing advice and guidance on employment matters;

  • Provide a wide variety of HR services to management and staff to support the full employee lifecycle including performance management, disability management, compensation, organizational effectiveness, employee relations and workforce planning;

  • Coach leaders in employee relations matters which includes career development, performance management, attendance management, progressive discipline, and termination procedures when appropriate;

  • Partner with leaders to support the development and sustainment of engaged high-performing teams;

  • Provide expertise and guidance on the application of existing HR programs, policies, practices, systems and services to management and staff;

  • Lead or support the design, development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of HR programs;

  • Manage the company's disability management program, supporting employees with any short term or long-term medical leaves and their re-entry back into the workforce;

  • Support the VP, Human Resources and Administration with compensation reviews, benefits plan review, salary surveys, job classification and pay bands, and succession planning;

  • Assist the VP, Human Resources and Administration with the development, review and evaluation of the effectiveness of HR policies, standard operating procedures and technology/systems;

  • Develop, deliver and maintain HR reporting and people metrics;

  • Research employment and industry data and legislative information;

  • Recruitment and selection of employees as needed. This includes evaluating candidates, conducting reference checks, preparing offer packages, completing background checks, and tracking applicants;

  • Provide backup support and assistance to the Talent Acquisition & HR Advisor.

What You'll Bring:
  • A degree in Human Resources or alternate post-secondary education;

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) or working towards designation (CPHR);

  • Minimum of 8 years of related Human Resources experience;

  • Knowledge of Human Resources best practices;

  • Strong computer skills;

  • Well versed in Human Resources, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Legislative changes;

  • Sound judgment in dealing effectively with employees;

  • Patience and able to work with varying personalities;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Able to effectively management sensitive and highly confidential employee information;

  • Solid time management and organizational skills;

  • High level of initiative;

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills;

  • Strong customer service orientation;

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
