Job summary

Stantec in Canada is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer specializing in dams to lead analysis, design, and construction of dam, reservoir, dyke, and hydropower projects across the country and beyond. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and engage clients to deliver high‑quality, innovative solutions.

With a focus on safety and climate resilience, you’ll apply geotechnical expertise, oversee dam safety reviews, and drive digitization and advanced modeling

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s or PhD an asset).
• 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Professional Engineer in good standing with P.Eng designation, or eligibility to obtain license to practice.
• Experience in dam engineering, dam safety, geotechnical design, and/or dam construction.
• Knowledge of relevant Canadian and global dam guidelines and standards helpful.
• General knowledge of geotechnical software solutions (GeoStudio™, LeapFrog, Rocscience).
• Demonstrated ability to work and manage projects independently.

Responsibilities

• Support design, analysis, and construction of dams, reservoirs, dykes, spillways, and hydropower projects across Canada.
• Conduct Dam Safety Reviews and inspections per CSA Guidelines, with travel within Canada.
• Manage geotechnical-focused and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Mentor colleagues and foster culture of technical excellence.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and build client relationships.
• Contribute to business development, proposals, market expansion.
• Drive digitization, advanced modeling, and emerging tech for climate adaptation.
