Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead tailings, mine waste and water dam projects across Canada from our Markham office. The role blends technical leadership with project delivery, client engagement and staff mentorship in a hybrid work setting.

You will contribute to planning, design and construction of complex geotechnical facilities, applying national and international dam safety guidelines while supporting business development and team growth.

Qualifications

Recognized geotechnical expertise for tailings, mine waste, water-retaining dams or related structures.
Strong knowledge of dam/embankment behavior and design.
Experience with dam safety, risk-informed decisions, and failure mode evaluation.
Mining operations and tailings management experience in consulting.
Proficiency with geotechnical analysis tools (GeoStudio, PLAXIS, FLAC).

Responsibilities

Lead senior input to planning, investigation, design, construction and closure of tailings/storage facilities.
Direct geotechnical characterization and advanced analyses (slope stability, seepage, seismic).
Lead dam safety reviews, risk assessments, and development of risk reduction measures.
Provide input across study phases from concept to closure with project-specific deliverables.
Support closure plans, technical reports, drawings and construction documentation.
