About the Role

Our client, a highly respected pharmaceutical company, is seeking an experienced Senior Formulation Scientist with expertise in Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) forms. This position is located in Kimberley, Northern Cape . You will be responsible for the development, optimization, and scale-up of innovative and complex OSD formulations. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmaceutical sciences, drug delivery principles, and manufacturing processes relevant to tablets and capsules. You will play a key role in advancing drug product development from pre-formulation through to commercial manufacturing support, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective medications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation development of new oral solid dosage forms (tablets, capsules).
• Conduct pre-formation studies, including solubility, stability, and compatibility assessments.
• Develop and optimize drug product formulations, considering factors such as bioavailability, stability, and manufacturability.
• Perform process development and scale-up activities for OSD manufacturing processes (e.g., granulation, blending, compression, coating).
• Prepare detailed formulation development reports, study protocols, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with analytical development, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs teams to ensure project timelines and objectives are met.
• Troubleshoot formulation and manufacturing-related issues.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and scientific advancements in pharmaceutical formulation and drug delivery.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical formulation development, with a strong focus on oral solid dosage forms.
• Proven experience in developing complex formulations and working with challenging drug substances.
• Hands-on experience with OSD manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Strong understanding of physical pharmacy, drug delivery systems, and solid-state chemistry.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements for pharmaceutical development and manufacturing.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
