SUMMARY

The Senior Financial Analyst (Financial Analyst III) supports complex transactions within a full accounting cycle for client contracts or business units. This role typically manages multiple portfolios and complex transactions.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Month End Close

  • Review project revenue, gross margins, and unbilled backlog analysis with finance and operational leaders for month-end review.
  • Prepare revenue recognition entries using percentage of completion method, with supporting documents and calculations.
  • Conduct project financial closeout and reconciliation.
  • Record journal entries and reconcile general ledger to job cost and other sub-ledgers.
  • Respond to internal and external financial inquiries related to specific client accounts.
  • Perform timely month-end close, recording all relevant transactions including project, labor, and accruals.
  • Investigate and ensure collection of Accounts Receivable, providing explanations for overdue balances.
  • Prepare monthly reports for specific client accounts.

Financial Planning & Analysis Support

  • Conduct profitability analyses comparing planned, forecasted, and actual figures.
  • Assist in accurate revenue and margin forecasting by project.
  • Support process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with job costing and pricing strategies.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for management as needed.
  • Understand GAAP requirements, especially revenue recognition standards.
  • Understand basic interactions between financial systems related to supported portfolios.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 3-6 years of progressive experience in public accounting or industry roles.
  • University degree or professional certification (e.g., P. Eng, CMA, CGA, CPA).
  • Ability to communicate basic accounting principles and explain financial results to team and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in complex account reconciliation and managing multiple portfolios or business units.
  • Ability to reconcile discrepancies between general ledger and sub-ledgers.
  • Identify issues and suggest process improvements following GAAP.
  • Deep understanding of audit requirements within scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to contribute to process documentation and business cases; write variance explanations and summaries.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting systems and MS Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  • Understanding of complex accounting issues like revenue recognition and project accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills, proactive problem-solving, and attention to detail.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Completed an accounting designation program (CGA, CMA, CPA).
