About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold District’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop regional, target, and deposit-scale geological models (lithology, structure, alteration, and mineralization).
  • Detailed interpretation, analysis, and continuous improvement in understanding the controls on gold mineralization at the existing deposits, and to refine and develop exploration targets.
  • Analyze and interpret the mineral potential of the Company’s exploration properties to define opportunities, both brownfields and greenfields.
  • Collection, compilation, data management, and interpretation of geological information from exploration programs including diamond drilling, mapping, geophysics, and surface sampling.
  • Provide technical leadership for regional exploration team including review, development and maintenance of best practice technical exploration systems and protocols.
  • Contribute to developing exploration work programs and to strategic exploration planning.
  • In collaboration with the Exploration Superintendent, ensure technical coaching for professional development purposes and proactive mentorship of junior staff.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science; Post-graduate degree, an asset.
  • 8-10+ years’ experience in mineral exploration.
  • Solid knowledge of orogenic gold deposit models.
  • Experience developing geological models at both the deposit- and greenstone-belt scales.
  • Regional scale targeting and exploration experience in Archean greenstone belts.
  • An excellent understanding of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments.
  • An ability to think across-scales and to integrate diverse, large datasets.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, environment, and community.
  • Experience working on a mine site, liaising with various mine departments while engaged in regional exploration activities.
  • Experience supervising geological field and drilling campaigns and managing the exploration teams and support staff required to execute the programs.
  • Experience developing, tracking and reporting on budgets using relevant software, experience using SAP an asset.
  • A track record of talent development with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Shown to be self-motivated and possesses leadership abilities.
  • Proficient with Leapfrog, GIS, and SQL databases.
  • Registered as a Professional Geologist (PGO)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
