Job description

Impala Canada is the owner and operator of the Lac des Iles Mine, located 90 minutes northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario. In operation for 30 years, the LDI Mine is one of only two known pure palladium sources in North America. Palladium contributes to a cleaner global environment, with its leading use in catalytic converters that reduce harmful emissions from gas-powered and hybrid vehicles.
The LDI Mine features a unique ore body and modern infrastructure, including underground and surface mining and milling operations. The LDI Mine is in Robinson-Superior Treaty territory, and the land on which we operate is the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg and the Métis. As a responsible neighbour in the Thunder Bay region, Impala Canada actively partners with local organizations, programs, and events focused on healthcare, education, and community development to help enhance the quality of life for all.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Production Geologist or designate, the successful candidates will work a 14 day on/14 day off rotation at the Lac des Iles mine site.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Mapping and sampling in underground and/or open pit development and production headings.
  2. Blasthole, drillhole, and drill core processing (tracking, logging, sampling).
  3. Data collection and entry, tracking grades and tonnes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  4. Communicating daily with Engineering, Production, and Development personnel.
  5. Working with Geological personnel to develop a 3D understanding of the lithological and structural controls on mineralization at the mine.
  6. Maintaining a safe work environment.
  7. Following company policies and legislative standards.
  8. Effectively communicating any hazards or concerns to the supervisor.
  9. Performing other tasks as may be assigned by the Chief Geologist.
Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include:

  1. 3 year College, or undergraduate or greater University degree in Geology.
  2. Able to perform as a part of the team in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Previous underground experience and logging definition diamond drill core is an asset.
  4. Experience with software such as AutoCAD/Amine, Datamine, Fusion/Dhlogger, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Will train as required.
  5. Verbal and written proficiency in the English language.
  6. Able to perform manual labor.
  7. Valid driver’s license.
