Job summary

Pomerleau is seeking a Senior Estimator for its Civil & Infrastructure division in Lévis, Canada. You will lead large-scale bid efforts across sewer, water mains, wind farms, dams, and roadworks, influencing project outcomes and supplier engagement.

You will guide junior staff, mentor peers, and leverage estimating software to deliver competitive bids on projects ranging from millions to over a billion dollars.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of estimating experience in ICI construction.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Mentoring junior team members and leading estimations.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower for key bid items.
• Prepare quantity summaries according to plans and trades.
• Identify project-specific prices for labor, equipment and materials.
• Maintain relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to support bid goals.
• Review supplier and subcontractor amounts for alignment with bid documents.
• Coordinate estimation for design-build projects with involved parties.
• Assist in sourcing new subcontractors and suppliers for bids.
• Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce costs.
• Mentor junior team members on best practices and trade secrets.

As an experienced Senior Estimator within Pomerleau’s Civil & Infrastructure division, you will play a key role at the heart of the Earthworks business unit. You will support the growth of both new and ongoing projects by challenging industry standards through your expertise and strong technical knowledge.

You will be involved in large-scale projects, ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion, across a diverse range of areas of expertise, including sewer and water mains, wind farms, dams, and roadworks, as well as other projects that may be delivered in synergy with the organization’s various business units.

Working closely with our proposal team and a wide range of clients, you will actively contribute to securing competitive bids and ensuring the overall success of projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform a quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower required for the work deemed decisive and verify the quantities given by the estimators.
• Prepare the summary of quantities according to the plans and specs and by sorting them according to the standardized sections and functions of the trades involved.
• Identify project-specific prices related to key items including labor, equipment and materials.
• Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals and vision.
• Thoroughly review all received amounts from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring their alignment with bid documents during compilation and bid closings.
• Take part in and/or coordinate the various parties involved in the estimation of a design-build project.
• Support in the search for new contacts subcontractors, suppliers, and work providers.
• Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce construction costs of bid projects.
• Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members, providing coaching and guidance on best practices and trade secrets.

Qualifications

• A University Degree or College Diploma in Construction project estimation or a combination of education and industry experience.
• 8+ years’ relevant experience in estimating in the ICI construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Previous experience leading and mentoring junior team members.
• Strong experience working with estimation software.
