Job summary

EllisDon seeks a Senior Estimator - CSA in Mississauga to lead bid teams on major projects, ensuring accurate pre-construction estimates for budgets and GMP submissions. Develop subcontractor scopes, analyze bids, organize quotes, and manage risk with a focus on CSA disciplines.

You will mentor junior staff and collaborate with operations, pre-construction, and engineering teams. A construction-related degree and 8–10 years of ICI estimating are required.

Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of experience in ICI estimating or equivalent
  • Construction-related degree required
  • Expertise in Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) fields
  • Strong understanding of estimating objectives, strategies and contracts
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive estimates and delegate to a team

Responsibilities

  • Lead a bid team through the completion of a competitive bid process.
  • Prepare accurate pre-construction estimates for budgets and GMP submissions, including design-build and stipulated price estimates.
  • Develop scopes of work for subcontractors and assist budgeting.
  • Analyze subcontractor bids for irregularities and ensure full scope inclusion.
  • Organize sub-trade quotes, rewrite binders, and support buy-out.
  • Identify project risks and propose mitigation strategies within the estimate.
  • Mentor and train junior Estimating staff.

As a Senior Estimator - CSA will:

  • Confidently lead a team through the completion of a bid process under pressure.
  • Be responsible for accurate, timely and well-organized pre-construction estimate preparation for budget and guaranteed maximum price submissions as well as design build and stipulated price estimate submissions for major projects.
  • Develop scopes of work for subcontractors to provide budgeting assistance.
  • Analyze sub-contractor bids for irregularities and ensure the full scope of work is included.
  • Organize sub-contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re-writing binders and assisting the buy-out process.
  • Monitor the success of a project, noting potential challenges and building relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities.
  • Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation strategies as well as the potential for opportunities and cost savings.
  • Distribute sub-trade quotes to personnel, flagging areas of concern and coordinating with management to accommodate risk within the bid price.
  • Maintain databases, including labour rates, material pricing and project costs, for future reference.
  • Review drawings and tender documents to understand scope of work and submission requirements.
  • Effectively determine the bid strategies required on each project for the company to be successful.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with our operations, pre-construction, and engineering teams to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Identify project-specific HSEQ risks and propose mitigation plans for these items in the estimate.
  • Mentor and train junior Estimating staff.

Is this the right role for you?

  • 8-10 years of experience in ICI estimating or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • You have a construction related degree.
  • You have expertise in the Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) fields.
  • You demonstrate a competitive passion and high-performance attitude.
  • You have an advanced knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts as well as conceptual estimating and unit costs.
  • You have the ability to work effectively and accurately in time-sensitive situations while delegating to a team.
  • You have experience in distributing sub-trade quotes, noting areas of concern and coordinating with management to accommodate risk within the bid price.
