Job summary

EllisDon Construction Services Inc. in Canada seeks an experienced Senior Estimator with 8–10 years in heavy civil and infrastructure to lead project procurement, bid processes, and pre-construction activities.

You will mentor estimating staff, assemble detailed budgets, and work with CM, Design Build, P3, and lump-sum contracts, while developing reliable cost estimates and maintaining cost databases.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree, diploma, or related construction education with 8–10 years of estimating experience.
• Advanced knowledge of estimating objectives, strategies, and construction contracts.
• Experience creating conceptual budgets.
• Ability to work accurately in time-sensitive situations while delegating to a team.
• Experience with estimating software OST and CostX.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team through project procurement, the bid process and pre-construction.
• Work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Mentor junior estimating staff.
• Assemble accurate, detailed budgets and estimates.
• Work with various contract types, including CM, Design Build, P3, and Lump Sum.
• Coordinate sub-trade quotes and assist in buy-out.
• Monitor project performance, support value engineering and identify risks.
• Build relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities.
• Distribute quotes and budgets to teams and manage risk within bid price.
• Maintain databases for labour rates, material pricing, and project costs.

Responsibilities

• Confidently lead a team through project procurement, the bid process and pre-construction
• Work under pressure and meeting strict deadlines
• Mentor and train junior estimating staff
• Assemble accurate, detailed, and well‑organized budgets and estimates
• Work with various contract types - including Construction Management, Design Build, P3, and Lump sum.
• Organize sub-contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re‑writing binders and assisting the buy‑out process
• Monitor the success of a project, assisting with value engineering and noting potential challenges
• Build and maintain relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities
• Distribute sub‑trade quotes and budgets to personnel, flagging areas of concern and coordinating with management to accommodate risk within the bid price
• Maintain databases, including labour rates, material pricing, and project costs, for future reference

Qualifications

• You have a Civil Engineering degree, diploma, or related construction education, along with 8 to 10 years of estimating experience on heavy civil and infrastructure projects, including bridges, roads, highways, transit, earthworks, and municipal infrastructure, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
• You have an advanced knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.
• You have extensive experience creating conceptual budgets.
• You have the ability to work effectively and accurately in time‑sensitive situations while delegating to a team.
• You have experience with estimating software (OST, costX).

Eligibility for Security Clearance due to project requirements.
