Job summary

EllisDon Corporation in Edmonton is seeking a Civil Estimator to join our team and lead estimating for infrastructure projects such as earthworks, underground, and roadworks. You will support bid processes from take-off to buy-out.

Applicants should have a construction-related degree/diploma and at least five years in civil estimating or field experience. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bid2Win is a plus. The role requires teamwork, autonomy, and a commitment to EllisDon's values.

Qualifications

  • You have a construction-related degree/diploma and a minimum of 5 years of civil estimating or field related experience.
  • You have estimating experience with earthworks, underground and roadworks.
  • Ability to use AutoCad is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of unit rate bid process and software (ie. Bid2Win, or similar)
  • You have a working knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.
  • Estimating experience in P3, Design Build, Design Build Facilities Management, Lump Sum, and Construction Management contracts is essential
  • You have the ability to work effectively and accurately in time-sensitive situations within a team
  • Be comfortable working autonomously, while providing updates when needed, and following EllisDon procedures at all times

Responsibilities

  • Support bid processes for infrastructure projects (earthworks, underground, roadworks).
  • Assemble accurate, timely estimates including lump sum, unit rate, and design-build pursuits.
  • Handle multiple bids without compromising bid integrity under workload.
  • Organise and bid-level sub-contractor quotes; assist with buy-out with Project Managers.
  • Maintain project general accounts for various project types and complexities.
  • Price projects using historical rates and productivity benchmarks.
  • Monitor project performance for risks and potential challenges.
  • Build relationships with sub-trades and suppliers for future opportunities.
  • Distribute quotes and coordinate with management to manage bid risk.
  • Maintain databases of labour rates, material pricing, and costs.

You as a Civil Estimator will:
  • Support a team through the completion of a bid process for infrastructure projects such as earthworks, underground and roadworks
  • Assemble accurate, timely, and well‑organized estimates, including lump sum, unit rate, construction management, and design‑build pursuits
  • Work on multiple bids simultaneously, when required, and not sacrifice the integrity of the bid due to workload
  • Organise and “bid level” sub‑contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re‑writing binders and assisting Project Managers in the buy‑out process
  • Be responsible for completing project‑specific general accounts for various project types and complexities
  • Be responsible for pricing out various projects based on previous historical rates and productivity
  • Monitor the success of a project, noting potential challenges and risks
  • Focus on building relationships with sub‑trades and suppliers for future opportunities
  • Distribute sub‑trade quotes to personnel, flagging areas of concern, and coordinating with management to accommodate risk within the bid price
  • Maintain databases, including labour rates, material pricing, and project costs, for future reference
