About us:
Michels Canada is a recognized general contractor in energy, infrastructure, and power construction based in Nisku, Alberta, with offices in BC and Ontario. Part of the Michels Family of Companies, a global construction firm headquartered in Wisconsin, USA.

We are seeking a Senior Estimator, Civil to join our preconstruction team. The role involves bidding on civil infrastructure projects like open cut trenching, tunneling, shaft construction, and foundations. The position can be based in Coquitlam, BC; Nisku, AB; Calgary, AB; or Concord, ON.

Responsibilities:

1. Promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies and procedures.
2. Support the Senior Project Manager during tendering, preparing estimates, bids, and project setup documents.
3. Analyze drawings and specifications, coordinate tender processes, and build relationships with stakeholders.
4. Review bid requirements, conduct site visits, draft risk assessments, and prepare budgets and change orders.
5. Assist in managing infrastructure projects from pre-construction to completion.
6. Perform related duties as needed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent trade experience.
• At least 10 years of construction cost estimating and field experience.
• Desire to succeed and experience with large general contractors.
• Experience with pursuits valued from $10M to $250M.
• Knowledge of self-perform estimates, construction methods, planning, and bid processes.
• Ability to lead teams, organize, and develop industry relationships.
• Estimating experience in Water/Wastewater, Open Cut, and Tunnel projects.
• Proficiency with heavy bid estimating software.
• Strong communication skills; supervision experience is a plus.

Languages: Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
