Job Summary

You are an Estimator with Powerline Construction experience responsible for creating cost estimates and preparing estimating packages related to quantity takeoffs, cost buildups, studies, budgets, subtrade solicitation, and bid comparisons to support projects. You will report to the Senior Estimator, offering innovative solutions and exercising judgment based on diverse information sources.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Integrate requirements from drawings, specifications, and terms into bids; conduct thorough reviews of RFIs before submission.
2. Prepare work take-offs and estimates for utility projects, including costs of materials, labor, and equipment based on bids, quotations, and drawings.
3. Lead subcontractor and supplier solicitations; review and analyze quotes to support bid decisions.
4. Develop estimates by verifying direct and indirect costs; manage bid package responsibilities.
5. Create and review staffing models, project schedules, and execution strategies in collaboration with operations.
6. Lead estimate reviews and facilitate bid clarification development.
7. Maintain alignment between Utilities and other estimating teams.

Qualifications

1. 5+ years’ experience estimating powerline construction projects.
2. 10+ years in the construction industry.
3. Experience estimating power transmission and distribution work is an asset.
4. Experience estimating other utility work (gas, telecom) is an asset.
5. On-the-tools construction experience is an asset.
6. Strong computer skills, including MS Office and estimating software.
7. Thorough knowledge of trade drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
8. Knowledge of construction costs, budgets, and scheduling.
9. Experience in negotiating and resolving contractual risks.
10. Excellent communication skills, adaptable messaging, and team coaching abilities.

Working Conditions

1. Flexible work environment – home and office-based.
2. Some travel within Western Canada.
