Job summary

British Columbia Public School Employers' Association | Make a Future - Careers in BC Education is seeking a Senior English/Teacher-Librarian for a 1.0 FTE temporary assignment at Houston Secondary School. The effective period runs from September 28, 2026 to January 31, 2027, with potential for return of the incumbent or other timetable-determined subjects.

The successful candidate will have university qualifications and/or significant secondary English teaching experience, plus credentials for

Qualifications

• University qualifications and/or teaching experience in English at the secondary level.
• University qualification and/or teaching experience as a Teacher-Librarian and in the listed subject areas.
• Experience developing personalized learning plans with parents.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents and community.
• Sensitivity to the needs of home-schooled learners and families.
• Ability to monitor and report on student progress using current assessment strategies.
• Ability to communicate with other schools regarding accessing resources and opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Attend staff meetings, professional development activities and school-based team meetings as required.
• Collaborate with the school staff, parents and broader community as a cooperative instructional team.
• Develop and implement English and Teacher-Librarian programs and resources as needed.
• Communicate with other schools regarding accessing learning resources, DL courses, field trips and extracurricular activities.
• Lead parent conferences and maintain positive home/school/community liaison.
