We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our Asset Maintenance, Standards & Equipment team. The Calgary downtown core is serviced with a Network system that consists primarily of street vaults . S everal street vaults are c onnected together to form a closed-loop secondary voltage grid to supply downtown c ustomer l oad . T his role is crucial in leading the development and sustainment of Network construction standards and material specifications . The ideal candidate will bring extensive utility experience to ensure quality standards and materials, providing technical support to both engineering and field services. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our network infrastructure.
Major Responsibilities :
Develop, review, modify , approval and authenticate Network design standards.
Develop and maintain material standards, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
Develop material specifications for tenders; perform engineering evaluation and recommendations on contract awards; approval of materials related to construction standards.
Responsible for the Network standards database content and distribution.
Work with engineering and field staff on Network material and equipment related safety concerns, equipment performance issues, and supply and substitution applications.
Work with engineering staff and field staff to resolve standards related to non-conformance as reported by the Safety Codes Officer.
Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to other engineers and technical staff.
Actively engage and collaborate with peers in other areas of the business to connect the teams and execute together on objectives to achieve better results.
Support process development, procedures and develop Key Performance Indicators
Work with external stakeholders like manufacturers, suppliers, provincial and national standards organizations and regulatory bodies such as the AESO and AUC.
Education Required:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA).
Qualifications :
10 + years’ engineering experience with distribution and network design with construction experience, material specification, procurement, and application
Construction experience is considered an asset
Detailed knowledge of utility industry codes and standards and safe practices
Competencies :
Strong technical ability to design, review, and approve distribution – specifically network designs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to coach and train colleagues in detailed network design
Advanced problem solving and analytical skill
Independent and self-starting, able to set clear goals and execute .
Proven leadership skills and ability to influence
Innovative with the ability to share new ideas and improve existing methods and processes

Location: T his role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at our South Service Center location (8820 52 St. SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
