Job summary

Kiewit Energy Canada is seeking an Estimate Lead to drive complete and defendable cost estimates for large energy construction projects across Canada. This senior role requires field/operations insight, leading the estimating team, and ensuring a strong handoff to operations for execution.

The candidate will influence bid strategy from pursuit through bid close, coordinating with Business Development and Senior Operations staff, and guiding procurement planning in a rigorous estimating

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering or Construction-related technology, or extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above.
• The ideal candidate has 7 to 10 years of related experience in the field on energy construction projects or in operations on these projects with some estimating experience.
• Ideally build and self-perform construction experience
• Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Experience with, and strong aptitude for, various estimating software systems.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise estimators in the preparation estimates, review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine completeness of data used, procedures, and aid in resolving differences in bid items.
• Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan and schedule for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
• Prepare pursuit win strategy in conjunction with Business Development and Senior Operations Staff.
• Develop pursuit procurement strategy.
• Reviews all bid and contract documents with the support home office legal department opinions.
• Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
• Utilize estimating techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
• Address any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
• Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
• Prepare special studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
• Consult with owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
