Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior/Lead Electrical Engineer to join our EI&C team in Calgary, AB. This role focuses on electrical design across power distribution, control, lighting, and municipal sectors, with extensive involvement in load calculations, protection, and system studies.

The position requires a Professional Engineer designation in Alberta/BC and at least 10 years of related experience, with mentoring responsibilities and client liaison opportunities in a hybrid work environment in

  • Professional Engineer designation in Alberta and/or BC.
  • Minimum 10 years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Electrical design experience for low/medium voltage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical design of power distribution, control, lighting, and municipal sectors.
  • Perform load calculations, arc flash, fault & coordination studies, and power system design.
  • On-site electrical research, field reviews and construction audits.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, feasibility studies, and proposals.
  • Coordinate with clients to develop engineering projects and proposals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and manage design budgets with project controls.

Your Role
  • Electrical design of power distribution, control, communication, lighting, commercial, institutional and municipal sectors.
  • Technical calculations and software use for load calculations, arc flash, fault & coordination studies, power system design.
  • On site electrical research, construction audits, field reviews.
  • Writing detailed and concise technical reports, feasibility studies, proposals, including written responses and instructions as required.
  • Planning schedules/tasks, implementing electrical system studies, preparing materials specs and capital/engineering cost estimates, reviewing design/technical solutions and prepare reports.
  • Liaison and coordinating with clients to obtain and develop engineering projects.
  • Preparing proposals, engineering estimates, equipment and design specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Planning schedules, design tasks, and project execution.
  • Assisting with mentoring junior engineers and designers.
  • Controlling design budgets and cost control monitoring and work with our Project Controls group
  • Coordinating electrical work with Project Managers/Project Engineers to facilitate inter-discipline quality
  • Managing and enhancing client relationships.
  • Responsible for adhering to all health and safety policies and guidelines Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical Technologist Program.
  • Professional Engineer designation with Alberta and/or BC.
  • Minimum 10 years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Electrical design experience in low and medium voltage systems.
  • Experience in protection relaying and/or power system studies.
  • Experience with power utilities including substation design, grounding, and HV overhead lines.
  • Previous experience in Pulp & Paper, Oil Refining, Oil Sands, Gas Processing, Pipeline Stations (pump/compressor/metering), Power Generation and Mining sectors considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of systems 69 kV and above considered an asset.
  • Good interpersonal skills required for internal team interfaces.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
