Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer for our Calgary, AB office. This role focuses on performing structural design calculations and supporting project teams on small to medium-size assignments within the Power team.

You will coordinate with other disciplines, assist with procurement activities, and contribute to meeting project timelines under guidance from senior engineers. Applicants should have 1–6 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s in Civil/Structural

Qualifications

  • 1–6 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience with structural steel and foundation design for power/utility projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and engineering/design software such as MathCAD, STAAD, S-Frame, RISA, PLS tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design calculations and provide markups for design drawings under senior staff guidance.
  • Support project teams in coordinating small to medium-sized projects.
  • Coordinate with discipline team members, project managers, and clients to support design activities.
  • Assist with design clarifications and construction support under senior supervision.
  • Track tasks, calculations, drawings, and related documents to meet schedules.
  • Prepare design drawings and calculations within area of responsibility.

Position Summary:

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer for our Calgary, AB office. This is a vacant position for which we are actively recruiting. Essential Job Functions:

Complete structural design calculations and provide markups for design drawings under the guidance of senior engineering staff.

Support project teams in the coordination and execution of small to medium-sized projects.

Coordinate with other discipline team members, project managers, vendors, contractors, and clients to support the flow of information for preliminary and detailed design activities.

Assist in providing design clarifications and technical support during construction, with guidance from senior staff as needed.

Support the achievement of project timelines by completing assigned tasks within agreed schedules.

Document, organize, and track assigned project tasks, calculations, drawings, and related design documents.

Prepare and/or check design drawings and calculations within area of responsibility.

Assist with procurement‑related activities and deliverables, including reviewing technical documentation and supporting supplier evaluations.

Prepare purchase requisitions and assist in reviewing the technical content of supplier bids and submissions.

Participate in inspections as required to support procurement, fabrication, or construction activities.

Monitor progress, schedule, and budget for assigned tasks and report status to senior engineers or project managers on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications:
  • 1-6 years experience in structural engineering.
  • Experience in structural steel and foundation design for high voltage substations, transmission lines, industrial, power generation, industrial buildings, and other utility projects.

Must possess a Bachelors’ Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.

  • Experience with transmission station structures or overhead transmission lines, including voltages of 115 kV or higher, is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with the design of steel, concrete, wood, and/or masonry structures.
  • Consulting engineering experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with MS Office and familiarity with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD, MathCAD, STAAD, S-Frame, RISA, LPILE, PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, SAGSEC, or CAISSON.
  • Strong communication, organizational analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks and support multiple projects with guidance from senior staff as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand as required and remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the workday.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, including continuous operation of a computer and other standard office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and printers.
  • The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting.
  • Periodic travel may be required and could involve limited exposure to extreme temperatures. Travel may include air travel, during which the employee may be required to remain seated for extended periods.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $110,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
