What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Vice President, Advisory & Oversight, you will lead an AML Advisory team in providing advice and independent oversight of compliance with all regulatory requirements relating to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF) for the Capital Markets businesses in Canada, correspondent banking and other business units as assigned. In this capacity, the Senior Director leads a team of AML officers (AMLOs) in providing guidance and oversight of money laundering and terrorist financing compliance, internal controls activities, and implementation of processes and initiatives to ensure risks are being appropriately managed. The role is also responsible for keeping up to date with regulatory information and changes, and communicating these to their respective Lines of Business (LoBs) with the objective of identifying any gaps between current practices and regulatory requirements. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

Advisory & Risk Management – Act as primary relationship manager between Enterprise AML (EAML) and LoBs to assess impacts and strategies developed to address new or changing requirements. Provide subject matter expertise and advice during the development and implementation of new processes and initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable AML regulatory requirements. Apply a global mindset when evaluating business needs, in recognition of CIBC Capital Markets’ global footprint. Provide recommendations and escalations as applicable in respect of Client risk assessments. Lead the completion of the annual Inherent and Control Risk Assessment for AML/ATF. Regulatory Oversight – Provide advice and guidance on AML regulatory requirements and changes as the subject matter expert to the Lines of Business and Functional Groups you support through developing a strong understanding of their products, services, operations, controls and processes. Keep current on applicable regulations and regulatory guidance and their impacts to these groups. Understand the LoB and Functional Group’s exposure to potential money laundering, terrorist financing and Sanctions risks based on its client types, product/service offerings and operations and the controls and processes to mitigate such risks. Effective Leadership – Provide leadership and effective management of department staff to influence employee commitment to the organization and to the team. Build team and individual capabilities through job shadowing, special projects, and training to ensure employees are capable of performing to job requirement standards. Provide strategic leadership and vision for the continuing evolution of the Capital Markets and Correspondent Banking AML/ATF program. Relationship Management – Develop strong relationships with LoB leaders and employees through regular meetings, presentations, and acting as the primary contact on AML matters. Establish partnerships with Risk or Control colleagues specifically in Enterprise AML and other areas, including Risk Management, Internal Audit, Chief Administration Office, and other functional areas.

Who you are

You can demonstrate experience working in AML compliance within the financial services industry for a minimum of 10 years. You have comprehensive knowledge of the AML laws and regulations in Canada, and have advised, interpreted and/or implemented AML requirements at a financial institution, other reporting entity or similar entities in Canada. You have significant experience supporting Capital Markets lines of business. You have an undergraduate degree in business, law, or accounting or equivalent experience. You have excellent, demonstrated risk acumen. You are a systematic thinker with strong process, analytical, and technical skills. You have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, together with strong presentation and executive communication skills. You act like an owner.
