Job summary

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Diesel Generation in Burnaby, BC, on a 12-month contract with a high likelihood of renewal. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and site travel within BC as required. You will support a major utility with capital projects, operations, and Owner’s Engineer reviews.

The candidate should have 8+ years of experience, be a licensed P.Eng. or eligible for BC registration, and possess strong design, costing, and troubleshooting

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible for BC registration.
• Experience with preliminary design, costing, inspection, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems for diesel generating stations in an electric utility environment.
• Experience supporting diesel generation mechanical systems, including gensets, engine auxiliaries, fuel storage and transfer systems, HVAC, fire protection, and lifting equipment.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide preliminary design, costing, inspection, and troubleshooting support for mechanical systems at diesel generating stations.
• Support diesel gensets ranging from 50 kW to 2.8 MW.
• Coordinate with operations staff, suppliers, contractors, and project teams.
• Develop safe engineering solutions prioritizing safety, cost, quality, and schedule.
• Investigate and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and recommend practical solutions.
