Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence (BI), the Senior BI Developer will work closely with the Technical and Operational Leads to perform development activities supporting both new development and enhancements for multiple BI projects supporting OH programs. The team focuses on delivering and facilitating BI solutions for multiple OH program areas including Cancer, Access to Care and other Domains. The Senior Developer will create significant impact across the organization by engaging with and providing BI services to stakeholders from any of the 40 business Domains or program areas. The team also supports enterprise initiatives related to BI platforms, governance and provision of services in the context of hub-and-spoke model. The BI solutions could include new projects, enhancements to existing projects and customizations to address business requirements. The Senior BI Developer will work with OH program stakeholders in addition to corporate service partners to design, prototype, develop, test, and implement comprehensive BI solutions. As part of this role, the Senior BI Developer would understand requirements, design, and document BI solution, develop, support the testing, and help deliver final solutions to production. The Senior BI Developer will also facilitate and advise regarding the development and publication of BI solutions created by other teams within OH.
Here is what you will be doing :
Analyze business requirements for new projects and enhancement requests.
Estimate overall effort considering interdependencies among applications.
Design, prototype, develop, and implement BI solutions, including standard processes and technologies.
Facilitate and advise regarding the development and publication of BI solutions created within the team and by other teams within OH.
Create substantial impact across the organization by framing BI solution patterns for various use cases that can also be used by reporting teams from various domains and program areas.
Customize BI platform to meet the business requirements.
Apply extensive software engineering, change management and project management knowledge to project delivery.
Make recommendations for BI application development based on industry best practices and standards.
Support troubleshooting of production related issues, coordinating the involvement of IT operations, EDW team and any other required personnel.
Produce technical documentation related to BI solutions and associated processes.
Keep abreast of new technology trends and standards. Proactively learn new BI functionality and BI platform components.
Establish good working relationships with team members and people from different departments with varying degrees of business and / or technical experience.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Provide direct support to the Manager, BI, to ensure delivery of BI solutions to OH programs and other groups as required.
Additional roles & responsibilities may evolve, and change based on need of stakeholders and the portfolio.
Here is what you will need to be successful :
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in healthcare informatics, Health Administration or similar discipline, or equivalent experience.
Proven track record in designing, developing, and implementing business intelligence and analytics solutions in healthcare is preferred.
Minimum 5-7 years of related experience, including experience leading, managing, developing and deploying business intelligence and analytics projects.
Knowledge and Skills :
Extensive experience in Microsoft Power BI Desktop, Microsoft Power BI Dataflows, Microsoft Power BI Report Builder, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio and VertiPaq Analyzer
Proficient in DAX, M, Power Query, SQL and performance optimization
Experience in developing and implementing Power BI solutions. This includes data modelling, designing, development and testing of reports.
Experience with other BI tools such as MicroStrategy, Dundas BI, SSIS / SSRS is an asset.
Experience with Power Platform (e.g. Power Automate, Power Apps)
Experience with Azure services (including Synapse), cloud, data lake and big data technologies.
Experience working with tools or platforms related to data visualization, analytics & business intelligence (Python, R, SAS).
Strong expertise with the entire Software Development Life Cycle involved in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining Business Intelligence solutions.
Expert in Agile project management approaches
Strong communication skills with experience interpreting, synthesizing analytic and technical information, and presenting to key stakeholders and leaders.
Experience working with stakeholders from Program areas as well as key corporate services such as Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Quality Assurance, Security, Privacy, Product Management and Business Intelligence teams to develop and deploy business intelligence solutions.
Advanced problem-solving capability with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as a part of a team.
Knowledge of Ontario’s health care environment and OH initiatives is an asset.
