Senior Day Program Activity Aide – Engage & Support Clients

Job summary

VON in Canada is seeking an Activity Aide for the Adult Day Program. You will support clients by implementing planned activities within the CQI framework and VON policies and procedures, standards and applicable legislation.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, assist with ADLs, promote safety, and engage clients in social and recreational activities; requires relevant education and CPR/First Aid certification; a vehicle is not required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate from a Community College level program in health care, social science or recreation.
• Current First Aid and CPR and Food Handler's certificates required.
• GPA/Montessori certification is an asset.
• 1-2 years of recent experience in Adult Day Services or working with groups of clients is an asset.
• Experience with adults with Alzheimer's or other cognitive impairments in a social setting is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to the development of the service plan for each client attending the Adult Day Program.
• Implements, evaluates and revises service plans with family/caregivers and internal team.
• Collaborates with the Recreational Therapist and/or Program Coordinator in planning and implementing social and recreational programs.
• Participates in group activities to stimulate mobility, language, reminiscing, group identity and listening skills.
• Assists clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required (toileting, personal hygiene, medication assistance).
• Identifies risk factors and introduces interventions to minimize and eliminate client incidents.
• Ensures safety and security measures for the client, volunteers and staff.
• Utilizes volunteers’ talents and expertise within the program.
• Other duties as assigned.
