Job summary

MacEwan University seeks a Senior Database Administrator for a full-time continuing role in IT Services. You will manage Oracle, SQL Server, and related databases, ensuring availability, security, performance, and lifecycle management across AWS and on-premises environments.

Reporting to the Team Lead, IT Data and Analytics, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support PeopleSoft, and contribute to data platforms and ETL pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Seven+ years in IT with at least 3 years hands-on Oracle database administration.
• Experience administering Oracle in production environments, including AWS RDS.
• Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server production environments.
• Experience with database security, backup/recovery, patching, upgrades, and DR readiness.

Responsibilities

• Administering, maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing Oracle databases hosted in AWS RDS and Oracle applications supporting critical services.
• Managing database availability, security, backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, capacity planning, performance tuning, and disaster-recovery readiness.
• Troubleshooting complex Oracle database issues including SQL performance, indexing, data integrity, and production incidents.
• Planning and executing PeopleSoft code migrations, refreshes, upgrades, and lifecycle-management across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Supporting PeopleSoft administration, including environment management, patches, migrations, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborating with application, infrastructure teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure reliable operation of Oracle and PeopleSoft environments.
• Maintaining technical documentation, procedures, standards, and automation for database and app administration.
• Providing support for Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, AWS database services, and related data platforms.
