JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Hybrid | Downtown, Toronto
Duration: 7 Months
Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Senior Data & BI Developer / Architect (Power BI, MS Fabric, Databricks) to design, build, and optimize data pipelines using Power BI Premium, MS Fabric, and/or Databricks. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.
Typical Day in the role:
- Develop scalable semantic models, star schemas, and tabular models for enterprise analytics.
- Build high-quality Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports aligned with business requirements and visual best practices.
- Implement data quality controls, lineage documentation, metadata standards, and observability metrics.
- Collaborate with business partners, data engineers, risk analysts, and architecture teams to define requirements and deliver analytical solutions.
- Support environment configuration, workspace governance, performance tuning, and capacity optimization in Power BI Premium / Fabric capacities.
- Contribute to the modernization of BBCR’s next-generation data architecture.
Must Have Skills:
- 7+ years in Data Engineering, BI Development, or Data/BI Architecture roles.
- Hands-on technical experience with:
- 7 years of experience with Power BI (DAX, M language, data modeling, Premium capacities). – Expert level
- 7 years of experience with SQL (advanced querying, performance tuning, stored procedures). – Expert level
- 5 years of experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Engineering, Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, KQL). – Expert level
- 3 years of experience with Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake, notebooks, workflow orchestration).
- Expert level experience with Data Lake file formats: Parquet, Delta, ORC, DuckDB
- Dimensional modeling (Kimball), semantic modeling, and data governance.
- Lakehouse and modern data architecture patterns.
- CI/CD for analytics, version control (Git), and DevOps pipelines.
- Experience working in enterprise environments with structured SDLC processes.
Nice-To-Have Skills:
- Experience in Risk Analytics, Banking, or Credit Risk domains.
- Familiarity with PowerShell, Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate), Python.
- Architect and refine Lakehouse and Medallion-based data structures using Delta/Parquet/DuckDB formats.
- Knowledge of Security, Privacy, and Compliance standards in financial institutions.

- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree level or above education, ideally in Computer science, Engineering, business, financial or technology
- Certified with MS Fabrics, Data Bricks and Power BI is nice to have.
