Job summary

BTY Group is seeking a Senior Cost Consultant to join our Ottawa team. You will prepare cost estimates for materials, labour and equipment, conduct site inspections, and deliver cost-management insights across project stages from concept to pre-tender.

The role involves mentoring junior staff, preparing reports, and liaising with clients to promote value. Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of relevant experience, 2+ years of mentoring, and a degree in a related field.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of relevant cost estimating or quantity surveying experience.
• Minimum 2 years of mentoring/leadership experience.
• University degree related to construction/estimation or equivalent.
• PQS and/or MRICS qualifications preferred.
• Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office is required.

Responsibilities

• Quantify materials and prepare cost estimates following CIQS rules.
• Estimate probable costs for materials, labour and equipment.
• Attend site inspections to assess cost-to-complete and work-in-place.
• Provide proactive cost management advice and client-facing reports.
• Prepare estimates across design stages from concept to pre-tender.
• QA/QC of cost management reports and variance analysis.
• Prepare change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates.
• Support proposals with technical components and fees.
• Mentor junior team members and participate in site visits as needed.
• Network to promote business and build client relationships.
