Job summary

Turner & Townsend in Calgary is seeking a Senior Cost Estimator specializing in civil infrastructure and transit projects, with 8+ years post-graduate experience, to lead cost estimation activities from feasibility to pre-tender stages.

You will prepare, defend and present cost plans, interface with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to value engineering and cost benchmarking for major infrastructure programs. Hybrid work arrangement offered.

Qualifications

  • Degree/cert in QS/CE/CM required.
  • 8–15 years of cost estimating experience in infrastructure.
  • Experience across pre-contract and post-contract phases.
  • Membership in CIQS/RICS/AACE is a bonus; strong client interaction skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates for infra projects (roads, bridges, LRT, utilities).
  • Present and defend cost plans and estimates to clients.
  • Interface with clients, stakeholders, contractors and consultants.
  • Review/validate cost submissions within progressive design-build contexts.
  • Engage in value engineering and cost benchmarking activities.

Who are you?
You are a seasoned Senior Cost Estimator specializing in Civil infrastructure and transit projects estimatingwith a minimum of8years post-graduate experience looking for the next step or are currently undertaking a comparable role in a similar environment.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, driven, and capable of working both independently and as part of a high-performingteam. In this impactful role, you will be providingadvice,leadership and direction, actively embedding and promoting the purpose, values, and vision of Turner & Townsend.

As aSenior Cost Consultant,you will be involved in:

Prepare construction cost estimates (Class 5 to Class 1) for infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, tunnels, LRT, transit, utilities, and municipal civil works.

Producing, presenting and defendingconstructioncost plans andcost estimatesforkeyinfrastructureclients developing complexengineeringprojects from feasibility/concept design up to detailed design (pre-tender estimates).

Actively interfacing with project clients, key stakeholders, contractors, and consultants (engineering, etc.)providing cost adviceduring all project stages.

Review, validationofcost submissionsfrom General Contractor(s)within aProgressive Design Build contractual environment as part of Target Cost/Price Development.

Providing cost reconciliation cost estimates including associated justification to be presented to project clients and key stakeholders.

Engaging in value engineering workshops to identify the cost savings and optimum solutions available for the client.

Producing cost benchmarksfor validation and target-setting on major infrastructure projects.

Qualifications
  • Quantity Surveying / Civil Engineering / Construction Management Degree and/or Certification or equivalent.
  • 8 - 15years’ experience in cost estimating positions across pre-contract/post-contract phases of infrastructure projects.
  • Membership of professional organisations is a bonus (e.g., CIQS / RICS / AACE).
  • Strong understanding of rail systems estimating methodologies, procurement and installation approaches, and key testing, commissioning,integrationand handover cost drivers.
  • Strong team player with a positive, collaborative attitude.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support client‑facing interactions.
  • Experience with BIM‑based quantification or digital takeoff tools is an advantage.
  • Experience in a consultancy, owner’s representative, or contractor environment.
