Job summary

Gowling WLG is seeking a Senior Law Clerk in Ottawa to join the Business Law Department within the Corporate Services team. The role focuses on drafting articles of incorporation, amendments, and related corporate documents, while coordinating matters with clients and internal teams.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of Ontario paralegal/law clerk experience, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to mentor junior staff. A collaborative, team-oriented environment in Ottawa is offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years legal experience as a Law Clerk/Paralegal in Ontario
• Ability to communicate effectively with Firm members and clients
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to coach and mentor junior associates, law clerks and students
• Ability to supervise professionals and staff
• Knowledge of current legislation and regulations
• Knowledge of legal terminology and principles
• Ability to analyze documents for accuracy
• Ability to produce high-quality work under tight timelines
• Ability to prioritize and redefine priorities when needed
• Experience with corporate databases (Athennian or similar) is an asset

Responsibilities

• Independently draft corporate documents (articles of incorporation, amendments, amalgamations) and related agreements
• Review files, plan steps, identify deadlines and ensure timely conduct of matters
• Act as front-line client liaison on corporate matters
• Mentor and train junior associates, law clerks, and students
• Work effectively in a team with strong communication and social skills
