Job summary

Synechron in Toronto is seeking a Senior Developer with exceptional Java skills to support our Equities Technology / Cash & Electronic team. You will help scale and optimize a global trading platform in a highly automated, containerized environment and collaborate across time zones.

The role requires 10+ years of hands-on software engineering, deep Java expertise, and strong Linux command-line abilities. Experience with low-latency systems and data-driven optimizations is a plus.

Our challenge

We are seeking a Senior Developer with an excellent command of Java to supplement the Equities Technology / Cash & Electronic team. We invest heavily in our front office electronic trading platform. The successful applicant would help turn this investment into a scalable, extensible and performant global trading platform. The role requires experience with a highly automated software development workflow as well as a containerized run-time environment. The ideal candidate collaborates effortlessly online and offline and practices data-driven code optimizations – with or without the help of AI. Prior experience with order management systems (OMS) or low-latency applications is a plus.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors.In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $135k – CAD $140k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement and deploy enhancements to electronic trading platform.
• Support and optimize what you and your colleagues have built.
• Collaborate with software engineers in other time zones.
• Reduce toil and repetitive tasks by automation.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering of low-latency or real-time systems.
• Excellent Java proficiency required, including concurrency, tuning, and memory management.
• Good command of Linux/UNIX command line interface.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

Preferred, but not required:

• Using agentic AI for software maintenance.
• Experience with container runtimes (Podman, Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with message passing systems such as Kafka and Aeron.
• Practicing data-driven optimizations (profiling, metrics collection).
• Working-knowledge of CI/CD techniques.
