What’s The Role

Shell Trading integrates a worldwide trading network with an extensive global portfolio in Crude Oil, Refined Oil Products, LNG, Gas, Power & Environmental Products, with major locations in London, Houston, Calgary, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and the Bahamas. The Contracts Operations team manages the entire contracts process, including providing pre-deal and post-deal commercial advice, contract drafting, internal authorization, dispatch of contracts/contract responses, records management, and offering value-driven commercial advice during complex negotiations.

The Senior Contracts Advisor, part of the Contracts Operations team and reporting to the Contracts Team Lead Crude - North America, supports the Crude trading and supply desks by drafting and negotiating complex spot and term sale and purchase contracts for crude oil, storage, tenders, SLAs, indemnity letters, transport contracts, and related documentation.

Accountabilities

• Provide commercial advice to traders on risks, opportunities, and potential value leakage.
• Draft and negotiate bespoke contracts and agreements suited for purpose.
• Authorize outgoing contracts and responses to incoming contracts for complex deals before dispatch.
• Negotiate contractual arrangements, frameworks, storage agreements, tenders.
• Ensure compliance with Shell’s Risk Framework, Ethics, and Control standards, and meet regulatory requirements.
• Assist in resolving contractual disputes with legal counsel as needed.
• Stay informed about trade opportunities and regulatory changes affecting procedures.
• Prepare and negotiate ad hoc agreements for new transactions.
• Maintain contract databases and reporting mechanisms.
• Refine contract processes to reduce profit leakage and improve efficiency.

What You Bring

• Legal authorization to work full-time in Canada.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 4 years of experience in energy/commodity trading or shipping in a legal, contractual, or operational role.
• Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Knowledge of trading within the energy or oil & gas industry is preferred.
• Understanding of risk allocation, insurance, and trade compliance regulations.
