Your Opportunity:
The Senior Consultant provides strategic, operational, and advisory leadership to support the development, optimization, and performance of surgical services across the Calgary Corridor. Working collaboratively with physicians, clinical leaders, operational leaders, and frontline teams, the role leads quality improvement, service improvement, and transformation initiatives that enhance patient-centered care, operational effectiveness, and system performance.
Description:
The Senior Consultant analyzes complex issues, assesses organizational needs, and develops evidence-informed solutions aligned with Alberta Health Services (AHS) values, policies, standards, and strategic priorities. The role provides expert advice, facilitates change, manages projects, and supports the successful implementation and sustainment of improvements using quality improvement, change management, and business methodologies. Operating with a high degree of independence, the Senior Consultant coordinates, implements, and evaluates Corridor-wide initiatives involving multiple stakeholders across sites, programs, and provincial teams. The position builds strong partnerships within Surgical Services and interdisciplinary programs to advance integrated service delivery and best practices. The role requires strong analytical, leadership, relationship-building, and facilitation skills, as well as a broad understanding of healthcare operations and surgical services. Working closely with site, Corridor, and provincial leadership, including Surgical Care Alberta (SCA), the Senior Consultant supports the achievement of strategic objectives and the continuous improvement of surgical services across AHS. Key responsibilities and accountabilities include, but are not limited to leading development, implementation, and evaluation of Corridor-wide surgical initiatives and facilitating stakeholder engagement, resource coordination, conflict resolution, and communication.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a healthcare profession, health sciences, business, management, social sciences, or a related field required. Working knowledge of Connect Care, with the ability to effectively navigate and utilize the system in a clinical or operational environment. Current registration in good standing with a relevant professional college or association. Minimum five (5) years of leadership, management, consulting, or project leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment or large organization. Demonstrated experience leading complex projects, quality improvement initiatives, organizational change, and operational improvements. Experience applying project management, change management, planning, and quality improvement methodologies to achieve strategic and operational objectives. Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, supported by experience in data analysis, evaluation, reporting, and research. Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to varied audiences.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience developing and delivering education, training, and knowledge transfer activities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Project, and Visio. Experience collaborating with physicians, clinical teams, operational leaders, and executive leaders. Strong understanding of healthcare systems, service delivery models, and current healthcare challenges. Training or certification in quality improvement, process improvement, change management, project management, health services planning, or related disciplines. Knowledge of knowledge management practices and continuous improvement methodologies. Proficiency with SharePoint or similar collaboration and information management platforms. Experience in clinical operations. Experience supporting strategic planning, health service transformation, or system-level improvement initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Leadership, Health Policy, Social Sciences, or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Formal education, training, or certification in health system leadership, project management, quality improvement, change management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution. Experience working within a large, complex healthcare organization.
