Job description

Acute Care Alberta (ACA) is a provincial health agency dedicated to overseeing the governance and coordination of high-quality, timely, and compassionate acute care services across the province when Albertans need it most. By bringing together specialized care providers, ACA will speed up access to high-quality care, reduce wait times and make sure every patient’s journey through the acute care system is efficient and effective across the province. Surgical Care Alberta (SCA) is a provincial program within ACA that serves as a provincial hub for surgical expertise, standardization, quality, planning and innovation. In the role of Senior Consultant in SCA, you will be a pivotal member of the team. Reporting to the Program Manager, Surgical Quality, the focus of this position is on improving the quality of surgical care in Alberta however, we work as a team across SCA therefore, you may be called upon to support other important work. As this is a provincial program, this position’s location is negotiable and may be eligible for a remote/hybrid work arrangement. It is an exciting time to join the organization and SCA, as the province works to re-imagine and re-organize healthcare administration and delivery. This is a unique career opportunity with the ability to play a significant role in building and shaping the foundation for a new provincial surgical program.

Description:

Surgical Care Alberta is seeking a forward-thinking and experienced Surgical Consultant to support the development of a province-wide surgical quality program that is in alignment with the broader ACA quality system. This role will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction and operational framework of the initiative, with a focus on improving surgical outcomes, enhancing patient safety, and promoting sustainable practices across Alberta’s surgical services. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinical and operational leaders, health system partners, data experts and others to define surgical outcomes and process indicators, design support for evidence-based interventions and foster a culture of continuous improvement. In addition to the primary focus on quality, the Surgical Consultant may also contribute to initiatives aimed at improving access to surgical care. This could include supporting system-level planning and identifying barriers and facilitators to timely care. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of surgical systems and structures in Alberta, clinical knowledge, a commitment to equity and excellence, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments with clarity and purpose.
