Job summary

DGA Careers is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Underwriter for a Calgary-based role in a growing Canadian P&C property and casualty team. You will own accounts through the underwriting lifecycle and act as a technical resource for junior underwriters, while building broker relationships and contributing to portfolio growth.

The role emphasizes autonomy, multi-class underwriting, and collaboration with brokers, with travel to partner markets as needed.

Qualifications

6+ years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience.
Broad underwriting experience across multiple classes of business.
Strong technical knowledge of commercial property and liability risks.
Experience pricing, structuring, and managing complex commercial accounts.
Ability to manage the full underwriting lifecycle from quote to binding and invoicing.
Experience working directly with broker partners and mentoring junior staff.
Willingness to obtain required licence within agreed timeframe if not current.

Responsibilities

Assess, price, structure, and manage commercial risks from quote through binding and invoicing.
Support referrals above junior authority levels and build broker relationships.
Mentor and develop less experienced underwriters on the team.
Participate in broker visits, meetings, and business development activities.
Maintain autonomy while contributing to portfolio growth and process improvements.
