Job summary

Sovereign Insurance, a subsidiary of The Co-operators, is seeking an Underwriting Specialist for its Commercial UW team. Based in Canada, this role analyzes risks, quotes new business and renewals, and collaborates with brokers to deliver informed, client-focused solutions.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years of commercial underwriting with broker relationships, expertise in Construction, Manufacturing and Energy Contractors, and strong analytical skills. A CIP designation is an asset.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of Commercial Underwriting experience with broker relationships.
• Experience on both new business and renewal business.
• Expertise in underwriting Construction, Manufacturing and Energy Contractors.
• Strong analytical skills with an understanding of metrics for portfolio management.
• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
• CIP designation an asset.

Responsibilities

• Drives profitable portfolio growth through underwriting discipline and strong service.
• Develops relationships with partners; attends meetings, presents, and participates in events.
• Quotess, negotiates coverage, manages renewals and endorsements per policy.
• Documents work and supports broker relationships.
• Mentors junior underwriters and participates in cross-team projects.
• Keeps current on market conditions and regulatory trends.
