Heartland Mutual Insurance has an excellent opportunity in our Underwriting Department for a Senior Commercial Underwriter.

1. Underwrite and negotiate medium complexity new business, renewals, and policy endorsements.
2. Prepare terms and conditions of insurance quotations and policies.
3. Work within defined limits of authority to provide high quality underwriting decisions.
4. Identify trends in submissions and communicate findings to leadership.
5. Negotiate terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers.
6. Order inspections or other underwriting information for analyzing critical risk hazards.
7. Implement market strategies and assist in the development of products, pricing, and services.
8. Provide expertise and guidance to coworkers and distributors, aid in account underwriting, and assist junior staff.
9. Prepare analysis and recommendations, recognizing exposure or gaps in coverage.
10. Ensure compliance of the product line with established principles.
11. Collaborate with other product line underwriters on an overall account approach.
