Job summary

BMT is seeking a Senior Combat Systems Engineer/Specialist to lead and deliver combat and systems engineering tasks for naval projects in Halifax, NS. The role involves advising clients, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring technical quality and compliance with naval design standards.

The ideal candidate has a degree in engineering, 10+ years in combat and systems engineering, and eligibility for Canadian security clearance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in Combat and Systems Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Provide Combat and Systems engineering advice and support to internal and external clients as demanded.
• Train, direct, and support work of team members assigned to engineering taskings.
• Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through workshops and professional associations.
• Contribute technical expertise to internal discussions, R&D and billable tasks.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technologists when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of naval systems design rules and implications for ships/submarines.
• Conduct technical assurance to ensure deliverables meet requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Combat and Systems Engineer is responsible for professionally and efficiently executing work in support of client taskings in the field of Combat and Systems Engineering.

• Provides Combat and Systems engineering advice and support to both internal and external clients iaw task demands
• Trains, directs, and supports the work of team members allocated to engineering taskings.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and/or participating in professional societies.
• Contributes technical specialist expertise, or practical knowledge, to internal discussions, R&D projects and billable tasks.
• As required, provides mentoring, training and guidance to junior engineers and technologists within BMT.
• Maintains a high level of knowledge and understanding of naval systems design rules and the implications of their application on ship and submarine design
• Conducts technical assurance/review activities to ensure deliverables meet client requirements.

Additionally, the Senior Combat Systems Engineer or Specialist may support the Combat & Systems Engineering team in various technical and project management work, such as:

• Application of Combat Systems engineering principles, regulations, and standards to various applications.
• Conduct and leading engineering assessments, feasibility studies and technical investigations.
• Support various projects in a Combat Systems engineering capacity in combat and military systems, cybersecurity, naval systems and platforms, and others.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential:

• Degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Combat and Systems Engineering
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Eligible for a Canadian security clearance

Desirable:

• Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer.
• Detailed knowledge and experience in the operation of naval systems.
• Experience in the in-service support of naval systems and/or engineering design.
• Experience in the development and use of technical studies and drawings.
• An understanding of specifications for government and commercial vessels.
• Experience in systems integration, ship construction and/or repair.
