Job description

This is a critical role in our client’s continued success and growth. Reporting to the Engineering Services Department, you will review all land development projects, ensure compliance with standards, and manage a range of capital projects.

LOCATION : WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CANADA

Some of the specific responsibilities will include :

  1. Review detailed design drawings, contract specifications, and reports submitted by private developers and/or consultants to ensure compliance with the Servicing Standards Manual and sound engineering principles.
  2. Provide professional expertise related to infrastructure construction and interpret Engineering Servicing Standards for the public, private developers, contractors, and consultants.
  3. Initiate development or revision of the client’s Servicing Standards manuals, including research into new products and construction procedures.
  4. Prepare and negotiate development agreements with private developers and ensure compliance with these agreements.
  5. Draft engineering, detailed design, and specialized drawings.
  6. Prepare and evaluate tenders, quotations, proposal calls, and reports; recommend awards in accordance with the Purchasing Policy.
  7. Collect and analyze technical data, undertake studies, research, and prepare reports for approval.
  8. Manage or coordinate the design and construction of in-house capital infrastructure projects or oversee consultant-controlled projects.
  9. Assist in preparing the Engineering Services Departmental budgets, manage project budgets, and calculate charges.
  10. Follow established safety procedures and standards, and ensure contractors, consultants, and workers adhere to them on work sites.
  11. Direct and train seasonal staff, participate in their recruitment, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  12. Act as Manager of Engineering Services or Engineering Projects Officer as assigned.

Compensation is in the $80k-100k range with good pension benefits. Relocation assistance may be available for those residing outside Yukon.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We seek an accomplished civil engineering professional with a diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or professional certification in technology. The candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in some or all of the civil engineering projects outlined in the JD.
