Job summary

SSA Recruitment (CA) is seeking a senior civil engineer with deep mining experience to stay hands-on and lead design efforts in mining and power sectors. You’ll join a privately owned consultancy that prioritizes engineering excellence over bureaucracy and has a flat structure focused on long-term growth.

You’ll work across mining, power, renewables and related markets, collaborating with teams across the business while staying billable, contributing to winning work and mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Civil engineering degree and P.Eng. with EGBC, or eligible for registration in BC.
• 20+ years in civil engineering with substantial mining project experience.
• Proven design experience across earthworks, water management, drainage and roads.
• Experience as Technical Lead, Project Engineer or EOR on complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian codes, standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Track record in project management, business development and client engagement.
• AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Strong site experience and willingness to split time between office and field.
• Dam safety, tailings, hydraulic structures or hydro experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Acting as Technical Lead or Engineer of Record on selected projects.
• Overseeing site infrastructure design including earthworks, drainage, water management, haul roads and mine facilities.
• Preparing and reviewing reports, drawings and specifications with focus on quality and constructability.
• Managing scope, budget and schedule, and coordinating with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Supporting business development through proposals, scoping, cost estimates and client presentations.
• Mentoring junior engineers and helping the team develop.

This is a senior, hands on role for a civil engineer with deep mining experience who still wants to be doing the engineering, not just managing it.

My client is a privately owned consultancy where engineering comes first and the business is built around it, not the other way round. They’re coming off a record year for growth, the structure is very flat, and they hire for the long term rather than project to project.

You’d work across mining, power, renewables and other markets, so you’ll collaborate with teams throughout the business rather than sitting in one silo.

They’re a technical bunch and set the bar high. You’ll stay billable while also helping to win work and develop the junior engineers.
