Job summary

Hatch in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead mining, energy and infrastructure projects from design through completion. You will provide technical leadership, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure quality through design reviews, calculations and QA/QC practices.

You will oversee site grading, bulk earthworks, drainage, roads and paving, mentor junior engineers, and manage project scopes with a strong PM background; P.Eng in Alberta preferred.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in mining, energy, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects.
• Proven experience leading civil engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong project management background on mid- to large-scale projects; PMP is an asset.

A typical day:

• Lead civil engineering projects for mining, energy, infrastructure, and heavy industrial facilities from design through completion.
• Perform civil design activities related to site preparation, grading, drainage, roads, paving, and bulk earthworks.
• Oversee the design of roads, plant roads, and site drainage systems.
• Provide technical leadership and discipline oversight for assigned project scopes.
• Coordinate and collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical deliverables.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of engineering calculations, contract documents, and design packages.
• Ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance through drawing checks, design verification, and engineering best practices.

Successful candidates will have:

• Civil Engineering degree from a recognized engineering program; P.Eng. designation in Alberta preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in mining, energy, infrastructure, or other heavy industrial project environments
• Proven experience leading and managing civil engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong project management background on mid- to large-scale projects; PMP designation is an asset.
• Expertise in site grading, bulk earthworks, drainage systems, stormwater management, and road design.
• Experience with sanitary sewer design, hydrology, hydraulics, and earth structure engineering.
• Thorough understanding of civil engineering design processes and proficiency with civil design software.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively within collaborative project teams.
