Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Civil Designer to join our growing Canadian Operations. To be successful, you must have a minimum of 8-10 years of civil design experience utilizing Civil3D in rail, stations, and transportation facilities projects including multi-modal corridors (LRT/BRT). The Senior Civil Designer will work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, regional team leads across Ontario, Canada, North America, and GHD’s global network.

• Preparation of civil drawings and details from conception to final design in Civil 3D, including linear utility modeling, site grading, site servicing, road and rail corridor design, and transit stations.
• Driving design phases and implementing standards on complex rail and transit projects.
• Reviewing and preparing models and drawings in collaboration with engineers to develop detailed drawings and supporting documents.
• Working within procurement strategies such as Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build to advance civil design packages.
• Mentoring and supervising junior staff and technicians.
• Following BIM standards and procedures throughout project lifecycle, providing support and training on Civil 3D and BIM standards.
• Ensuring compliance with GHD BIM standards at the project level.
• Contributing to BIM scope, schedule, and budget planning.
• Performing quantity take-offs and producing high-quality civil deliverables.
• Communicating regularly with project teams to ensure effective information flow and meeting deadlines.
• Participating in the development of GHD Standard Civil/Transportation Details and BIM standards, mentoring, and training.

What you will bring to the team

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; background in Civil Engineering is an asset.
• 8-10 years of civil design, drafting, and modeling experience (Mandatory).
• Proven experience in site grading, site servicing, drainage, and access road design using Civil 3D.
• Extensive experience with corridor and pipe network modules in Civil 3D.
• Experience in 3D modeling, design completion, general arrangement drawings, redlining, and drafting.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• High proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; knowledge of Bentley software and other tools is a plus.
• Experience with Metrolinx and rail corridor modeling is an asset.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and perform complex design tasks.
• Experience with QA/QC of models and drawings.
• Good understanding of project effort estimation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with BIM collaboration tools such as ProjectWise and BIM 360.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
