Job description

Position: Senior Business Systems Analyst

Position Type: Full-time, Temporary - 14 Months

Location: Edmonton Area

Our enterprise software thrives on change. If your logic, leadership and communication can turn complexity into confident decisions - and you enjoy strengthening how systems and teams work together - then you should be one of us.

What you’re passionate about

You enjoy making complex systems make sense. You’re at your best when you’re listening closely, asking the right questions, and turning messy problems into clear, workable solutions people can rely on. As a senior analyst, you bring calm, curiosity, and leadership to the table. You look for ways to make work better—strengthening analysis, reducing risk, and finding smart opportunities to use automation or AI supported tools where they reduce risk, improve accuracy and eliminate repetitive effort. You care about teamwork, clear communication, and learning as you go. You take pride in keeping operations running and decisions solid—and above all, you celebrate great work (preferably with a dessert).

A typical day for the Business Systems Analyst

Operational support comes first. This role prioritizes the stability, accuracy, and continuity of APS’s core pension administration system. The Senior Business Systems Analyst ensures day‑to‑day operations are well supported, risks are understood and managed, and issues are resolved effectively—while also contributing to system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen long‑term reliability.

Operational Support & System Stability
  • Provide senior‑level support for the day‑to‑day operation of the core pension administration system, investigating incidents, recurring issues, and system behaviour to maintain stability and accurate process.
  • Lead business and system analysis support, including root‑cause investigation, requirements clarification, impact analysis, and future‑state assessment to reduce rework and risk.
  • Triage and prioritize operational issues and requests, assessing severity and downstream impacts and identifying effective resolutions or interim workarounds.
  • Work closely with the system vendor and internal teams during issue investigation and resolution to clarify behaviour, validate fixes, and manage operational risk.
  • Track issue trends and operational pain points, documenting findings and decisions to support auditability, knowledge sharing, and consistent practices.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with the system vendor and internal teams to clarify requirements, review proposed solutions, and align release scope with APS priorities.
  • Support system releases and enhancements through impact analysis, stakeholder communication, and post‑implementation support.
  • Translate business needs into clear, reusable analysis artifacts, including process flows, use cases, acceptance criteria, and decision records.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve efficiency through automation and responsible use of AI‑supported tools.
  • Contribute to evaluating where automation or AI can reduce manual effort, defects, or rework while maintaining governance, data integrity, and compliance.
Ways of Working
  • Balance operational support and project work in a fast‑paced, release‑based environment without compromising quality or risk management.
  • Work collaboratively with business partners, technical teams, vendors, and other analysts.
  • Share knowledge, strengthen analysis practices, and model professionalism, collaboration, and sound judgment across APS.
What you bring
  • University degree or diploma.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency at analyzing, troubleshooting, and critical thinking.
  • Flexible communication style for clarity with non‑technical users, technical teams, and vendors.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain solid communication channels with your team and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply judgment in ambiguous or imperfect situations, balancing risk, urgency, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Creativity and initiative to seek answers where documentation may not exist.
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle and practical understanding of integrated software systems.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management in a busy work environment.
  • Knowledge of the pension services industry is a benefit.
