Job summary

Parks Canada is seeking a Built Heritage Advisor to protect and conserve Canada's federally designated historic places. You will provide expert guidance, review documentation, and participate in committees to align projects with the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.

You will deliver training, support national heritage programs, and help steward sites like National Historic Sites, Heritage Buildings, and heritage lighthouses.

Qualifications

• EXp1: Recent and significant experience applying architectural heritage conservation standards and guidelines.
• EXP2: Experience providing detailed heritage conservation advice to decision makers.
• K1: Knowledge of conservation best practices for built heritage and of the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.
• K2: Knowledge of historic construction methods in the Canadian context.
• A1: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• A2: Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and present complex information.
• A3: Ability to assess rehabilitation projects and formulate context-sensitive recommendations.
• A4: Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on conservation approaches for federally recognized historic places and participate on committees.
• Review architectural and technical documentation related to conservation projects and ensure alignment with standards.
• Deliver training on heritage conservation best practices and the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada.
• Support national programs including Federal Heritage Review Office, Heritage Railway Stations, and other heritage initiatives.
