Job summary

City of Hamilton is seeking a Site Supervisor for Fieldcote National Memorial Park and Museum and Griffin House National Historic Site. You will manage operations, supervise staff, and coordinate programs to deliver engaging heritage experiences.

The role requires building relationships with Black communities, educators, and community partners, and ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards. You will contribute to inclusive visitor experiences and oversee exhibition planning.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in a museum related field or equivalent education/work experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Black communities, knowledge of events, networks, and protocols.
  • Experience creating heritage-based visitor experiences in physical and digital spaces.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, preferably in a museum environment.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with community and stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering and evaluating museum and community programs and exhibits.
  • Understanding of inclusion, equity, diversity and social justice in a museum context with leadership in these areas.
  • Knowledge of OHSA, WHMIS, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code and AODA.
  • Available to work weekends, evenings and statutory holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and direct administration and operation of the sites per policies and plans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Black communities, educators, and community leaders.
  • Coordinate bookings, rentals, schedules and programming for the sites.
  • Supervise site staff: motivate, hire, train, and evaluate.
  • Develop and evaluate heritage-based learning opportunities in physical and digital spaces.
  • Develop social media content for the sites.
  • Collaborate with Curator and Conservator on collections standards.
  • Coordinate exhibition programming with HRM staff and Senior Curator.
  • Prepare and monitor operating and capital budgets for the site.
  • Oversee maintenance of site buildings and grounds and safety issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and regulations; report deficiencies.

Community College Diploma in museum related discipline
