Job summary

The Town of Whitby seeks a skilled Building Permit Technician to review detailed plans and issue permits for minor projects such as decks and sheds, ensuring compliance with Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code. You will manage AMANDA communications and streamline the E-Portal intake and screening.

You'll support the pre-screening process, verify documentation, and guide applicants through permit submissions while maintaining accurate and complete records in AMANDA and GIS systems.

Qualifications

• Three year college diploma in Business Administration, Architectural Technology or Engineering Technology.
• Successful completion of the qualification exams in “General Legal” and “House” as administered by the MMAH.
• Valid BCIN Designation, issued by MMAH.
• Minimum 36 months related experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
• Strong knowledge of Part 9 of the OBC, Applicable law and Zoning By-law.
• Familiarity with AMANDA and GIS software.

Responsibilities

• Executes detailed plan examinations, prepares and issues status letters and building permits for minor projects, ensuring full compliance with Part 9 of the OBC and applicable law.
• Leads the pre-screening process on the E-Portal, verifying application completeness and ensuring accuracy of data in AMANDA; makes necessary modifications.
• Provides direction to applicants through AMANDA communications on the E-Portal regarding missing documentation and approvals.
• Leads the validation process for subdivision house applications, confirming completeness and verifying firebreak lot allocations.
• Reviews and verifies permit fees, calculates refundable deposits, and determines deposit requirements in alignment with municipal policies.
• Drafts and finalizes Conditional Permit Agreements and Orders; manages Title Search documentation related to these agreements.
