Job summary

Sierra Construction in Woodstock, Canada, is seeking a Skilled Labourer IV to lead by example on bridge and heavy civil projects. This senior role focuses on safety, high workmanship, and productive execution under the Working Foreperson and Superintendent.

You will perform advanced hands-on tasks, support short-interval planning, mentor junior labourers, coordinate tools and materials, and ensure work aligns with drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of bridge/heavy civil construction experience.
• Ability to read and interpret basic drawings.
• Strong safety awareness around lifts, heights and concrete operations.
• Proficiency with advanced hand tools and small equipment used in bridge construction; tickets/certifications considered assets.
• Strong teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and mentoring capability.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Follow and reinforce all company safety policies and site rules.
• Lead by example with PPE compliance and stop-work authority when unsafe.
• Inspect tools, rigging, and equipment; remove damaged items from service.
• Support layout and installation checks including lines, grades, elevations and tolerances.
• Coordinate materials, tools, and consumables to reduce downtime and keep crew productive.
• Provide guidance and coaching to Skilled Labourers I–III and General Labourers.
• Assist the Working Foreperson with crew coordination and task sequencing.
• Perform safe material handling including lifting, staging, loading/unloading, and stockpile organization.
• Communicate progress, constraints, and hazards to supervision.
• Support onboarding of new workers by reinforcing site rules and safe work expectations.
